The Green Barn, meet the Parents and some homemade scones
Well hello there everyone!
Yes a little bit quiet on the blog the last few weeks, but that doesn't mean we haven't been wandering about! As is always the way, as soon as you start something new life decides to just throw a mental busy few weeks. With a mix of weddings and Electric Picnic there has been a lot of recovery time needed, and also we didn't want to be posting for the sake of it either.
But anyways, I have been absolutely DYING to do a blog post about Burtown House and the Green Barn since my first visit.
This weekend I had the perfect excuse for a lunch time visit
Let me introduce The Baker Creators 😂😂😂 running around in their natural habitat.
I wanted to call them Senior Bakers but surprisingly it didn't go down too well lol
So the Green Barn, I absolutely adore places like this, if you haven't heard of it, or havent visited, I highly highly recommend!
The first thing I noticed was all of the lovely new sculptures
It looks like Birdswood at Burtown house just opened and will be on display for the next month - check out the link for more details
Some of my favourites:
I booked a table for 2.30 just to be on the safe side as it fills up quickly and I was so glad I did, within about 15 mins of sitting down the place was starting to get packed, then a bus tour of 20 pulled up!
There are very few places that you will ever receive such a warm welcome as soon as you walk in the door. All of the staff are just absolutely fantastic, warm, friendly and super inviting.
We took our seat by the window and decided to take a look at the lunch menu - everything looked amazing - they even make their own Elderflower prosecco!
As we were reading through the menu wondering what on earth to have, a waitress walked past with burgers in hand and we all looked at each other at the same time, put the menu down and said "I know what I'm having!!!"
I wont lie, this probably isn't the best picture I could have taken but I was already tucking into it before I remembered to take a quick snap ha 😋😋😋😋
I swear, one of the nicest burgers I have ever had, full of flavour, juicy and the beetroot slaw was to die for! My Dad raved about it and especially the cheese for hours after
As I mentioned earlier the staff are just amazing, when we told our waitress how much we enjoyed the food, she told us the full ingredient list how they make their burgers and even cooking tips to be able to recreate at home.
She also mentioned for their evening meals on Friday their specialty is setting up the wood burner and making fresh pizza
That's beechwood underneath
Dessert time - yes of course there was still room
I mean you can't blame us, how could you actually resist a table like this!!!
Jaysus Carol... We'll make a blogger of you yet
Dad treated himself to a Rhubarb Crumble - taken from the giant Rhubarb plants growing in the gardens, Mam got herself the Baked Berry Cheesecake, I went for the Lemon Drizzle cake
All plates were licked clean, nothing left
Happy little campers
Well lets walk off all that food, the rain was hit and miss and it was starting to get a little late so we didn't take a walk around the full gardens, we will save that for next time, its €8 per adult so we don't want to be in a rush.
Would. You. Be. Able! How frigging cute are they!
The front of the restaurant is just as quaint, there is a gallery with paintings for sale, books and also a food section where they even stock some of their own fresh made produce!
I treated myself to a jar of the Blackcurrant and Irish Stout jam
Now I was dying to taste the jam, but what was glorious enough to deserve this
I think a hot fresh scone is in order!!
I found a recipe for a Dairy Free Scones here
I actually looked for the laziest recipe I could find, like really, like come on, who needs 28 ingredients for a scone!!
I used Unsweetened Almond milk and the dairy free Pure Sunflower butter from Supervalu
Step 1.
Step 2. Ignore all instructions, add wine and.....
Boom! Scones
Ha did I almost fool you?
What are these, scones for ANTS!
Not sure how it was even possible for scones to shrink in the oven, but, Baker by name, not by nature 😁
Right lets go again and make some human sized scones
Step 1. Again.
Step 2. Actually read the step by step instructions
Step 3. Use Cat measuring cups
Realize wine has more than 1 use 😍
And Whiskey glasses make awesome scone cutter outters
Step 4. Obviously clean as you go 😆 whoops
Drink more wine.
Wait 15mins
Ah perfect! Real scones!
Well I can honestly say, that is the NICEST jam to ever grace my kitchen, on top of a fresh out of the oven scone... Heavenly Sunday afternoon snack!
I will absolutely be back to the Green Barn for more, and also dying to try a few other flavours, Marmalade and Irish Whiskey is on the list.
*Lots of scones were harmed in the making of this blog post!!
Size comparison of 1st and 2nd batch lol
Well fair play if you made it this far!
