Well hello there and a very big warm welcome to our new blog page.
The Wandering Bakers is a shared blog between 2 sisters - Rachel and Shel
Shel here writing this particular post to tell you a little bit about The Wandering Bakers and why we have set this page up.

 Myself and Rachel are the very best of friends, we absolutely LOVE taking road trips, going off the beaten track, finding amazing places in Ireland and abroad to take in scenery, eat, drink, chill and most importantly just having a bit of a laugh and exploring new places.

 We just want to record and share our experiences with everyone, we have come across so many little hidden gems, amazing food, the best coffee, taken random trips away and we thought this was the perfect little project to do together! 


 So a little bit about us:

 Rachel (Big Sis) Always had dreams and aspired to be a travel journalist, although she has taken a different path she has never lost her flair for outdoors, adventure, food, being an amazing Mammy and always wants to make memories.

 Shel (Lil Sis) loves food and would drive to the opposite side of the country if she heard they had the best breakfast roll in all the land, most passionate when talking about where to eat next, enjoys good hearty food, Gin lover, and is the awkward dairy free one :/

Our wander out to Inisbofin

Well hello there fellow Wanderers!!! It has certainly been a while since our last blog post but we're still here! The Easter weekend we decided to take a wander to Galway and do something a little different - we took a trip out to Inishbofin  island. Inisbofin translated to English means Island of the White Cow tied to an old folklore story :) "The origins of the island’s initial colonization are still obscure. The most common and basic version relates how two fishermen lost in fog, landed on an enchanted island and lit a fire. The flames broke the spell and the mist lifted to reveal an old woman driving a white cow along a shingle beach, which ran between a lake and the sea. She was observed to strike the cow, whereupon it turned to stone. Another tradition has that the old women and the cow emerge from the lake every seven years or alternatively to forewarn of some impending disaster. Kildare Brewing Company Launch

Howdy! Rachel here. While Shel was off wandering antiques, coffee and bric-a-brac, my Saturday consisted of something a wee bit stronger!! Was fortunate enough to be invited to the launch of the Kildare Brewing Company , in Lock 13 , Sallins Co Kildare. This micobrewery is the passionate result of a lot of blood, sweat, tears and hops from an amazing team including of course, #BrendanTheBrewer Stepping away from the big dogs in beer quite some time ago, Lock 13 has become well known for not just its tasty fresh local food, but its huge range of craft beers too.. And how local can you get, than beers brewed just 10 metres from your table. Nestled on the banks of the grand canal, amongst the picturesque house barges in Sallins, Barry Flanagan decided to use the old takeaway building attached to Lock 13, to create a unique destination for foodies and beer lovers alike.
