Kildare Brewing Company Launch

Howdy! Rachel here.

While Shel was off wandering antiques, coffee and bric-a-brac, my Saturday consisted of something a wee bit stronger!!

Was fortunate enough to be invited to the launch of the Kildare Brewing Company, in Lock 13, Sallins Co Kildare.

This micobrewery is the passionate result of a lot of blood, sweat, tears and hops from an amazing team including of course, #BrendanTheBrewer

Stepping away from the big dogs in beer quite some time ago, Lock 13 has become well known for not just its tasty fresh local food, but its huge range of craft beers too.. And how local can you get, than beers brewed just 10 metres from your table.

Nestled on the banks of the grand canal, amongst the picturesque house barges in Sallins, Barry Flanagan decided to use the old takeaway building attached to Lock 13, to create a unique destination for foodies and beer lovers alike.

Sallins is so handy from Dublin, only 10 mins from Naas, N7 and served by plenty of trains daily (30 mins from Heuston), so wandering is easy to and from here.

The inside of the brewery is visible from the restaurant, so I highly recommend asking for one of those tables when booking (which is also recommended on the weekends!) and the design itself was all created by Brendan, consisting of the Kettle, Whirpool and the Masher

Malt for the beer is sourced locally in Athy, from Minch Malt, so it really is an entirely Lily White affair altogether !

On Saturday evening we had some (actually many some!) of the Helles Lager , Amber lager and my favourite, the Pale Ale and some tasty matching canapes too! All in the pretty setting of the sunny beer garden (theres a lot to be said for the Child of Prague). Music provided by Tadgh created a lovely festival feel .

Plenty of parking, child friendly and a huge tasty menu... Lock 13 is a must on all wandering wanderers lists.

With the expansion of this venue to include an heir quite soon, we wish Barry, Ola, Brendan, Kellie and team every success and we look forward to some nice seasonal rotational beers from "Maverick" the pilot !

We'd love to hear what you think! Tell the guys the Wanderers sent you! :) Let us know if you get to visit.

xx
